I ate my first brain today. Coincidentally, Halloween just passed. It was at a Middle Eastern & Mediterranean restaurant called Mister Kebab in Quezon City. I learned that brain is served in Turkish cuisine, although I didn’t encounter it during my recent trip to Turkey and I’ve certainly never seen it in the States (not surprisingly).
I would describe it as mild and mushy. It doesn’t have a lot of flavor and the texture is slightly creamy. It was somehow neither pleasant nor unpleasant. Perhaps one acquires the taste for brain.
Brain is supposed to be high in cholesterol but a good source of DHA, an Omega-3 fatty acid that is good for…yep, your brain.
